Our weekly gatherings create a welcoming space where people of all ages and backgrounds can meet, form meaningful connections, and feel part of a supportive community. By bringing families together regularly, we help reduce isolation, build bridges between families, strengthen relationships, and encourage people to build stronger connections.
Each gathering is designed to be friendly, inclusive, and accessible. Whether someone comes to learn, share knowledge, meet new people, or simply enjoy the company of others, everyone has something valuable to contribute.
Kurdish Language Learning
A central part of the programme is our Kurdish language class, led by a volunteer teacher. The sessions are open to beginners who want to learn to read and write in Kurdish, as well as people who already speak or understand the language and would like to improve their literacy and confidence.
Learning together makes the language more than a subject. It becomes a shared activity through which younger and older generations can exchange knowledge, stories, and experiences. Older participants can pass on cultural understanding and lived experience, while younger participants can develop skills that help them connect with their heritage, families, and wider community.
Building Skills, Confidence, and Belonging
The purpose of gathering around language is not only to develop reading and writing skills. It is also to create opportunities for conversation, mutual support, and friendship. Participants can learn at their own pace, practise without judgement, and celebrate progress together.
These weekly sessions support wellbeing by giving people a regular place to belong. They also help preserve Kurdish language and culture, encourage understanding between generations, and strengthen the community’s ability to work together on shared priorities.
Who Can Join?
Everyone interested in learning or improving their Kurdish is welcome, regardless of age or experience. You do not need any previous knowledge, and fluent speakers who would like to practise, support others, or share their knowledge are equally encouraged to take part.

MESSAGE OF THE JUNE 29 RE-BUILD CONCERT
The concert held on June 29 carried an important cultural and community message. It was organised not only as a musical event, but also as a meaningful gathering to support children, encourage the learning of the Kurdish language, and strengthen the connection between families, young people, and the wider Kurdish community in London.
Supporting Children and Their Future
One of the main aims of the concert was to show support for children and young people and recognise their importance in preserving Kurdish identity. Children are the future of every community, and giving them opportunities to learn, participate, and feel proud of their heritage helps build confidence and belonging. Through music, language, and shared cultural activities, the event created a positive space where children could feel connected to their roots while growing up in a multicultural city.
Encouraging the Kurdish Language
A central message of the concert was the importance of encouraging children to learn and use the Kurdish language. Language is more than a way of communicating; it carries history, memory, culture, and identity. By organising events like this concert, RE-BUILD helps preserve Kurdish culture while also strengthening unity among community members.

The celebrated Kurdish singer brought the community together for an evening of art and culture at Opera Holland Park
On the evening of 16 August 2026, the theatre at Opera Holland Park in London was filled with the sound of Kurdish music as Adnan Karim, one of the most celebrated voices in Kurdish music, took to the stage. Organised by RE-BUILD charity as part of its mission to bring culture and tradition to the Kurdish community, the concert brought together members of the Kurdish community from across London and beyond, alongside friends and music lovers, for a night that celebrated the richness of Kurdish art, poetry and culture.
Set in the leafy surroundings of Holland Park, the evening offered something rare: the chance to hear a living legend of Kurdish music perform in the heart of the capital, in a setting more often associated with opera and classical music.
A celebrated voice of Kurdish music
Born in Kirkuk in 1963, Adnan Karim first performed in public in 1979 and has since become one of his generation’s most influential traditional Kurdish singers.
Poetry brought to life
Karim is best known for setting classical Kurdish poetry to music, giving new life to verses that have been treasured for generations. His expressive baritone, accompanied by traditional instruments, carries songs of love, longing and the experiences of the Kurdish people. By singing in different Kurdish dialects, he has created a musical bridge that speaks to Kurds from every region, and it is this sense of shared heritage that made the London concert so meaningful for those in the audience.
A community coming together
For many in the audience, the evening was about more than music. It was a chance to gather as a community, to share familiar songs with family and friends, and to introduce younger generations to the poetry and melodies that are such an important part of Kurdish identity.
